The Project

Transforming Alert Electrical’s online store through a seamless ecommerce migration

The Strategy

From outdated platform to future-ready online store

Alert Electrical came to us with a familiar challenge: a legacy Magento store that had become increasingly sluggish, difficult to maintain, and expensive to extend. Their team and customers needed a more efficient, scalable platform, one that could keep pace with both customer expectations and internal operations.

Our solution was a full migration from Magento to Shopify, paired with a headless architecture that used Sanity as the front-end CMS. This decoupled approach gives the Alert team the flexibility to scale content and commerce independently, while significantly improving site performance and usability for their consumers and partners.

Migrating the commerce engine to Shopify while using Sanity to power the front-end

To modernise Alert Electrical’s ecommerce experience, we migrated the store from Magento to Shopify, offering a more agile, cloud-based commerce platform which removes the burden of server maintenance and scaling, while providing a faster, more secure, and more reliable shopping experience.

The benefits of using Sanity for commerce

  • Performance & hosting offload: SaaS platform handles scaling and security, so the dev team can focus on features rather than server ops
  • Modern checkouts and payment options out of the box
For the front-end experience, we implemented Sanity as the headless CMS, giving the marketing team complete control over structured content, including but not limited to: landing pages, product features, guides and blogs. Sanity’s real-time preview and portable data architecture allows for faster, error-free content publishing, while keeping high quality performance

The result was a fully decoupled architecture with Shopify powering commerce, and Sanity handling content.

Migrating content to protect SEO rankings and performance

A critical part of any platform migration is ensuring that existing content and SEO equity are preserved. For Alert Electrical, we took a meticulous approach to transferring their entire content ecosystem, which we are also implementing, including products, categories, pages, blogs, and case studies.

All metadata was migrated accurately, and wherever possible, product and collection URLs were retained to safeguard existing rankings. For any changes in site structure, we implemented a detailed redirect map to maintain link equity and user flow. We also used a staging environment to thoroughly test content, layout, and technical performance before launch.

Technical SEO actions taken:

  • Submitted updated sitemaps to Google Search Console and improved structured data
  • Prioritised top-performing pages to maintain post-launch visibility
  • Set up and tested tracking environments in GA4, GTM, Hotjar, and Google Ads
  • Verified the product feed in Google Merchant Centre
  • Conducted a post-launch audit

Sanity Migrations

Using Sanity for commerce and front-end functionality

The benefits of using Sanity for commerce

  • Performance & hosting offload: SaaS platform handles scaling and security, so the dev team can focus on features rather than server ops
  • Modern checkouts and payment options out of the box: For the front-end experience, we implemented Sanity as the headless CMS, giving the marketing team complete control over structured content including but not limited to: landing pages, product features, guides and blogs. Sanity’s real-time preview and portable data architecture allows for faster, error-free content publishing, while keeping high quality performance due to lightweight, GROQ-driven page rendering.

The benefits of using Sanity for front-end functionality

  • Structured content modelling – flexible schemas allow for marketers to control landing pages, product details and editorial content in one place
  • Real-time preview – editors see changes live on the site before publishing so they can make any amendments or notice any issues
  • Portable data – GROQ queries pull just the snippets each page needs, trimming payloads and boosting load speed
  • Decoupled architecture – front-end can evolve (Next.js, React, Ast—whatever) without touching the commerce back end
