Day in the Life – Digital Marketing Executive

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

The latest instalment of our ‘Day in the Life’ series here at Imaginaire Digital, this time we will be giving you an insight into the life of Charlie, our talented Digital Marketing Executive.

So what does a typical day look like for me?

06:00 to 07:00

I have a pretty typical morning routine, my alarm wakes me up at 6am every morning, then I head downstairs for a quick coffee to start the day. I drink too much coffee. You will normally find me with an e-newspaper in my hand checking the latest news stories before I head to work. With this, I’ll also spend a bit of time looking onto the industries that my clients operate in. By doing this I’m able to stay up-to-date with their world and it’ll often lead to interest topics for a piece of content.

07:00 to 08:00

I am an early bird when it comes to getting into work on time, which does mean a less traffic-filled commute for me. Which is fantastic. The music I listen to in the car consists of old hits from the 90’s and 00’s, a bit of hip hop and indie tunes, which I will try my hardest not to sing along too. I will get into the office for around 8 o’clock, make myself a cup of strong coffee (again) and set up my work list for the day. We use Teamwork at Imaginaire, so I can plan all of my tasks, keep it organised and tick it all off as I go.

08:00 to 09:00

After spending some time checking emails and organising my work for the day, I will spend the first part of my morning completing competitor linkbuilding for my clients with a coffee in hand. I have a lot of client work that I need to do month after month, which is great as it ensures that I am never stuck twiddling my thumbs, but it also means that I am able to have a hand role in a lot of different companies in different industries. I am always learning, this is one of my favourite parts of the job!

09:00 to 11:00

Once I have completed my competitor linkbuilding for the day, the next thing on my work list is normally writing and promoting guest posts. Some SEOs like to say that guest posting is dead, and it can be true in certain cases, mainly when you are hosting a guest post on a very low authority site. However, we focus a lot of our time on getting guest posts on high authority websites with a large following, and the results we see from this are incredible. Some focus on quality and ignore the quality which is the wrong way to go! Not only from a linkbuilding perspective, but also from a brand outreach perspective as well as we can ensure a lot of people are reading the posts.

I am the Digital Marketing Executive here at Imaginaire, so a lot of my day is spent completing marketing tasks for our clients in-line with the strategies which have been agreed at the start of the project. I love my job as it means I get to experience a wide array of different companies and industries, making me into a more well-rounded digital marketer.

11:00 to 12:30

Time for a website check! We have a new website that is about to go live for one of our clients, so I will spend this part of my day going over the entire site, checking things like the copy, the design and ensuring that there aren’t any bugs on the website. Whilst this process can sometimes be quite laborious but I enjoy it. It is a crucial element of any web design project, and needs to be done right! It also helps that I have an over-sensitive attention to detail, which means I am able to spot certain things others might miss. I’m a bit if a perfectionist.

12:30 to 13:30

Lunchtime! We are in a very central location here at Imaginaire, with lots of great places to eat nearby! I have to use an incredible amount of willpower not to visit the pub next door and get myself food from there! My lunch usually consists of soup, and some amazing focaccia bread or rice and chicken from a local shop down the road. However, I am occasionally tempted to get fish and chips from across the way. My lunchtime is often spent reading some blog posts on websites such as Moz or Ahrefs or I’ll read the news and ensure I am not missing any breaking stories.

13:30 to 16:00

Back to linkbuilding work for the rest of the day, we use a lot of techniques here at Imaginaire so my time is often spent either using competitor linkbuilding, guest posting, link bait outreach and even some broken linkbuilding! Of course, there are a lot of other strategies we use for our clients as well. This is one of my favourite parts about my job, I get to use so many different strategies to help get my clients further up the Google rankings.

15:30 to 17:00

The last bit of my day is spent researching up and coming SEO tactics that could potentially be used for our clients. SEO and digital marketing as a whole are constantly changing and tactics are expiring every day so researching new tactics is critical to every agency. This R&D part of the day means that I can spend a little bit of time exploring the world of marketing and push for innovation across the board.

The variety of my job is definitely my favourite part about working at Imaginaire. One day could be spent designing PPC ads for clients, and another day could be spent researching new linkbuilding tactics to use for both Imaginaire and our clients. No day is ever the same, and I am never bored.
